Since I am teaching a non-credit social media course at Lethbridge College and now recently will have a regular column in the Lethbridge Journal (starting in February) about social media, I would like to spend some time talking about how social media can benefit local businesses.
Each Monday, I will share information that will help local businesses use social media more effectively. I will share company highlights, case studies, how-tos and more – with a focus on the Lethbridge market.
An Amazing Story
I thought I would kick off this weekly series by sharing one of the most quoted examples of small business social media success.
Naked Pizza is a small pizzeria in New Orleans that has completely embraced social media. They embraced Twitter so entirely that they added the Twitter logo and handle to their restaurant sign (see below).
On April 23, 2009, Naked Pizza ran a Twitter-exclusive promotion that brought in 15% of that days business. They were able to track sales originating from Twitter by having a Twitter button added to their POS.
Why does Twitter work for Naked Pizza?
They tracked every order and promotion originating from Twitter with their POS.
They embraced Twitter by promoting their handle on their restaurant sign and main website.
They tweet 10 – 15 times per day.
They created a kiosk within the store, where customers can sign up for a Twitter account if they hadn’t already been users.
Next week I share a Gas King (a local retail fuel company) interview and case study
