YouTube, blip.tv, Viddler, Vimeo, and much more… Web video has become very mainstream, but also very fragmented. There are numerous video delivery services and each person has their favorite flavor. That makes it very difficult for people that want to collect these videos and/or share them. That’s where Vodpod comes in.
Vodpod is a video bookmark service, similar to delicious for website. I’ve only be experimenting with Vodpod for a few days now, but I’m already noticing some benefits to the service. Here are some of the key points that I’ve observed so far:
You can include videos from over 800 video sites
There is a powerful API available
There are tools for embedding videos in your blog or website
You can share your collected videos on various social networks
You can tag your videos
It has a social component where you can comment and follow others
You can create your own completely branded video site for free using their VodSpot tool
I’ve been sharing industry-related videos weekly from the web and they are not all from YouTube. So far, the videos I’ve shared have come from YouTube, Viddler, Vimeo and Ted.com. So this service is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’m just about done my VodSpot channel, you can get a sneak peek. The branding is just about done.
If you want to build up a collection of videos from across the web and want it to be a social experience, Vodpod is a tool you need to try.
